To prepare for the procedure, you'll be given a specific diet to follow, beginning two weeks before your scheduled surgery date. It's a strict diet that reduces calories as well as carbohydrates, such as sweets, potatoes, and pasta. You will eat primarily lean protein, vegetables, and low- or no-calorie fluids. A sleeve stomach can hold at a maximum, 10 to 15 ounces of food. Often far less food is ideal and what is tolerated. The stomach post-gastric sleeve is neither particularly flexible nor distensible. Certain basic tests are done prior to bariatric surgery: a Complete Blood Count (CBC), Urinalysis, and a Chemistry Panel, which gives a readout of about 20 blood chemistry values. All patients get a chest X-ray and an electrocardiogram. Many surgeons ask for a gallbladder ultrasound to look for gallstones. After six weeks you should be able to resume a normal solid food diet. Your gastric sleeve will allow you to eat almost any type or texture of food. You should aim for three well balanced meals each day. Your calorie intake should be between 1000 and 1200kcal per-day.Question and Answer
